Background

New York. Myth and stories surround her name like smog around the Empire State Building on a hot, humid summer's day. Outsiders believe that she is inhabited almost exclusively by black-clad caffeine junkies as icy cold as the overgrown tin cans that whisk them around in a vast and confusing network of underground tunnels. They fear how New Yorkers embrace the night, walking the streets as freely at 3 AM as they do at 3 PM. From their shiny clean Suburban cages, they wonder what goes on in the dark corners of the bars, clubs, and alleyways after the sun drops beneath the last of the bridges. To them, New York is callous and dangerous, a place of nightmares and dark hedonism. Maybe they're right... but there's a hell of lot more to it than that.

The truth is that this town has a heartbeat. The City is alive during the day, with people rushing from place to place conducting business in every conceivable area of trade. There is no time for bullshit, and pleasantries are kept to a bare minimum. There is always something else that needs to be done, and you can feel the push as you walk down the streets. Keep moving or get out of the way.

When night falls, the tempo is no slower. No matter where you are, there is always something to see, a new sensation to explore. Perhaps the steely cold exterior built up during the day is what makes the City's inhabitants seek out the extremes of the night. The masks of the day are dropped, and the cloak of the night is donned in their place. The mortals are infatuated with the night. It makes them feel alive.

And so it is only logical that New York would attract other creatures of the night. For countless years, every denizen of the World of Darkness found sanctuary in this nocturnal worship. It could even be said that it was partly because of our presence here that the night holds so much sway over the City. New York welcomed us as she did the huddled masses who arrived on her shores not too long ago, and we made her our home.

Since that night, alot has happened. In May 2000 the unthinkable happened. All the supernatural creatures in New York City disappeared. No one took credit.....or the blame for that matter. Eventually the unwanted, the daring and the ignorant came back to the decimated city. Almost one year later, the puzzle was solved. A ritual went terribly wrong. Who performed that ritual? Only a select few know that answer. What is known is that for know, what was sought to be released is held. For how long? Good question.

Now the city is in its true rebuilding stages. The Camarilla who were the first back and the ones to put the peices of the puzzle together are holding all the keys currently. The Sabbat are back - but no where in the numbers or force they were. And now there are Shen in the city. Looks like everyone wants to get in this hand of poker. Who will be standing with the game is over......
